Aerial Inspection: Gov Pramono Inspects Flood-stricken Areas

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung conducted aerial inspection using a helicopter on Thursday (3/6) to monitor the latest condition of the floods that hit a number of areas in Jakarta and its surrounding area.

"...to see firsthand the floods that occurred both in Jakarta and Bekasi,"

This way, he could get a comprehensive picture of the flood impacts.

From above, Pramono saw flood-stricken areas, such as residential areas and roads. He also inspected the condition of overflowing rivers and water channels due to heavy rainfall over the past few days.

Residents Appealed to Stay Alert for Extreme Weather As Flood Recedes

"First of all, I would like to thank Water and Air Police (Polairud) for facilitating us to see firsthand the floods that occurred both in Jakarta and Bekasi. Earlier, we were not only the situation in Jakarta, but also in Bekasi, Babelan, and so on," he explained after conducting aerial inspection, Thursday (3/6).

Based on the observation, the flood in Jakarta has started to recede. Water level at Manggarai Sluice Gate has dropped to 600 cm, resulting Jakarta's status is now Alert Level 4.

However, several areas in Jakarta, such as Pengadegan, Cawang, and Bidara Cina, still require special attention due to Ciliwung River normalization. Therefore, the Jakarta Provincial Government will immediately follow up on land acquisition and coordinate with the Ministry of ATR/BPN if necessary.

"We will soon proceed and complete it, especially for Ciliwung River normalization in Pengadegan, Cawang, and Bidara Cina. That's why, yesterday's high rainfall had a tremendous flood impact, and we will address it," he conveyed.

The Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to taking a humanist approach in land acquisition efforts for river normalization in densely populated areas, such as Bidara Cina. Relocation to public housing will be prepared for affected residents.

"We must adopt a more humane approach, as we also need to make the people residing in areas targeted for normalization aware that they face a constant threat of flooding at any moment," he said.

Regarding the flood that still occurs around the Ciliwung Crossing Channel, he informed that the crossing channel only functions optimally if the water level in Manggarai reaches 700 cm. Therefore, the channel should be dredged again to make it function optimally.

He also said that he had informally contacted regional heads in Jakarta's buffer zones for flood handling.

In terms of flooding in Bekasi, especially Babelan, Pramono said that the floodwater level is still quite high, because almost all houses are flooded.

Therefore, the Jakarta Provincial Government will send assistance to Bekasi in form of fire trucks, toilets, garbage trucks, 200 PPSU personnel, and logistic aid, such as rice and side dishes.

"In Jakarta, because (water level at) Manggarai Sluice Gate is already normal, reaching 600 cm, and we see above (the situation in Bekasi), we discussed to provide assistance to Bekasi," he uttered.

Meanwhile, Kakorpolairud Baharkam Polri, Police Inspector General Mohammad Yasin Kosasih informed that based on the aerial inspection, Babelan and Bekasi are the most worrying points with water levels reaching four meters.

"So, we passed through points that we consider still prone to flooding, namely Kampung Melayu, Pondok Gede, Jati Asih, and the last was Babelan. Of all of them, Babelan is the most worrying," he expressed.

The high water level in Babelan submerged many houses until only the roofs were seen. To help the flood and post-flood handling, the Polairud Baharkam Polri deployed around 200 personnel, with additional personnel from Polairud Polda Metro Jaya.

"There are several points where the floodwater has receded, but we also continue to help for post-flood handling," he mentioned.

During the aerial inspection, Jakarta Govenor Pramono was accompanied by Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Agency Acting Head, Ika Agustin Ningrum; Jakarta BPBD Secretary, Marulitua Sijabat; Kakorpolairud Baharkam Polri, Inspector General Mohammad Yasin Kosasih; and Kabag Penum of National Police Public Relation Division, Kombes Pol Erdi A. Chaniago.
